NFL Tips – 49ers Turn Up the Heat on Rivers!

The last game of the week sees the 49ers head to Indy with a 5th straight win in their sights against a struggling Colts unit.

San Francisco 49ers (10-4) at Indianapolis Colts (8-6)

San Francisco have won their last 4 games and head to Indianapolis with a lot of confidence. They're probably not going to win the strong NFC West, but a wildcard spot awaits them in the NFC, depending on how they finish up the season. The 49ers' strengths are clear when you look at how they generate offence. They rank 4th in passing yards per game at 246, and that passing edge is supported by a solid overall balance, scoring 24.6 points per game, while allowing 20.9. They have also travelled well with a 6-2 record on the road and will be dialling up the pressure on old man Rivers in the passing game.

Indianapolis are in a strange spot because their form is poor but the underlying profile still has real strengths. Their run game is a major weapon at 128 rush yards per game with Taylor dominating, and their run defence is also strong, giving up only 95 rush yards per game. They can score, sitting 6th in points at 28.0 per game, and they take care of the ball better than most. The main issue has been QB play and they've had to get Philip Rivers out of retirement. If they can control the game through the run, they could have a chance at an upset. But scoring enough points to win will likely be the issue.

Leg #1 - Anytime Touchdown Scorer: Christian McCaffrey

McCaffrey has scored a rushing touchdown in four straight games and has also found the end zone on the ground in three straight road games, which fits nicely with the 49ers current travelling form. The workload is exactly what you want, with 20 plus carries in three straight games, including 22 carries for 73 yards and a rushing touchdown last week against Tennessee.

Leg #2 - Anytime Touchdown Scorer: Jonathan Taylor

Taylor is the clear focal point of this Colts team, and the game context suggests Indianapolis will lean on him heavily again. He leads the NFL with 16 rushing touchdowns and has handled 20+ carries in three straight games, including 25 last week with Rivers back under centre. That tells you the Colts are committed to a run-first approach.

Leg #3 - Anytime Touchdown Scorer: Jauan Jennings

Jennings caught two touchdowns last week against Tennessee and his involvement in the offence has been steady, seeing five-plus targets in eight straight games. He has also caught a touchdown in five of his last six games. Against a Colts pass defence ranked 31st by yards allowed, San Francisco should be able to create red zone trips

Value Leg - 275+ Passing Yards: Brock Purdy

Purdy’s passing yardage is the best value angle if you want to lean into the clearest mismatch in this game, which is San Francisco’s passing attack versus Indianapolis’ pass defence. Purdy threw for 295 yards last week against Tennessee and has cleared 275 yards in three of six games this season.

Anytime Touchdown Scorer: Christian McCaffrey / Anytime Touchdown Scorer: Jonathan Taylor / Anytime Touchdown Scorer: Jauan Jennings / 275+ Passing Yards: Brock Purdy = $9.50
