This week’s headline play is Sheza Alibi at 5.5 units at $1.90 in the Golden Eagle. In the Derby we’re with Murshidi at 0.4 units at $14 and True Tone at 0.25 units at $21, while The Next Episode is a 1.8 unit bet at $3.80 in the Coolmore. Perisher is our strongest Traders’ Best Bet at 4 units at $2.30 in Randwick Race 5.

Cup week has arrived and Derby Day kicks us off this Saturday with a superb nine race card. Supported by the Golden Eagle in Sydney, let’s dissect all the big races and find some winners.

Lacklustre Derby this year. There are no stars here and it is amazing to see Cormier at the top of the market. He’s bred to stay so may enjoy getting out in trip, but I just don’t think he is any good so looking to take him on heavily. Likewise, Stormy Marco who draws the car park. The Spring Champion looks like the right form but I have this $8 the field. Hierarchy was the horse I liked here but unfortunately news of him coming out today. True Rebel looked all out at the end of 2000m the other day and King Snitz is another I’m not sure will run it out. I didn’t mind the Geelong Classic as a reference and would have been more bullish on Murshidi had it drawn a gate. Nevertheless, he ate up 2200m and I think will be strong late with B Shinn sticking. True Tone the other who brings the dominant SP from Geelong and I think he’ll be better ridden cold. Is the right price to find out. Lottery race and nothing would surprise but will be with Murshidi and True Tone small.

Murshidi @ $14.00 (0.4 Units) Good field assembled this year for the stallion making race. Interesting to see The Next Episode drift in early betting. Getting close to touching 3/1 which just looks like an easy bet to have. Looked in the wilderness at the trials this prep but his late strength in the Danehill was there for all to see and no problems at six furlongs. The camp can do no wrong and no doubt primed. The draw on the stands side and any predicted rain only aids his chances. St Gotthard the one the market loves early. Five weeks between runs off a brutal Golden Rose where he chased hard and gets blinkers first time. Satono Glow superb in the Roman Consul running time set up by a scorching tempo. She can win but I just think too short currently. Natural Fling a question mark at 1200m and likely to come undone chasing Paradoxium who will go out hard again. It cannot run the trip. Doubt Time the one who I think can bomb them from off speed. Likely tags The Next Episode and gets last look. The Next Episode good bet and won’t be losing on Doubt Time.

The Next Episode @ $3.80 (1.8 Units) Again, not really a vintage Group 1 for the girls with Lady Shenandoah coming off a Group 1 win in the Toorak. Class runner and in so well at WFA. Clearly, she needs the mile to find her best with all her good form out over this trip. Very hard to beat. Surfin’ Bird putting up the picket fence this preparation. Her record at a mile is equally as good and sure to have admirers on the quick back up but there looks good speed engaged here so won’t get it her own way. Concord Connie was a good run last start at Caulfield making ground against the pattern. The early price is gone but she looks primed to peak. Unleeshing has been airborne in Sydney and continues to raise the bar at each start. Toughest test to date but I like a mare in form and Flemington will suit her down to the ground. Not a race I’m keen on but I do think they will run along and potentially set it up for a horse like Unleeshing who is just airborne. Will have something small on at double figures.

Unleeshing @ $11.00 (0.5 Units)

$1.90 to find out if Sheza Alibi was gassed by the Caulfield Stakes run. That’s the question you have to ask because if she has bounced through it she has this lot covered. I’m inclined to trust Peter Moody and from a good draw back to the mile I think she will take care of them. Beiwacht mixes his form and just isn’t as good as the market pegs him for mine. Autumn Boy has been handled by the favourite each time they’ve met. I would have Skyhook the danger who has been super this prep and just found the step back in trip last start a bridge too far. Ratings wise, the rest are a step behind and hard to see them elevating. Even if Sheza Alibi rates down I think she can take care of them. Happy to bet. I’ll have a round of drinks on Estremo for mental health purposes. I wish he had gone to Flemington.

Sheza Alibi @ $1.90 (5.5 Units) Love the race and hope we can get off to a good start. Targeting two from the Waller camp who have owned this race in recent times. The Roaring Sun my top seed off a stylish return at Kembla and trialled super since. Mile suits and will love Flemington. Unhinged sectionally brilliant last start at Rosehill winning against the bias. Drawn for the right run and gets McDonald. The Roaring Sun a good result and making Unhinged a winner also.

The Roaring Sun @ $9.00 (1.3 Units) The favourite comes through the good form of the Thousand Guineas but was awfully dour for mine so I’m not sure the step back to seven furlongs is in its favour. Pin Up Sheila primed to peak now third up and gets McDonald from a good draw. Tip around for Blue Dream on debut and duly saluted from an impossible position. Love the trainer and looks suited out to 1400m.

Pin Up Sheila @ $4.40 (1.5 Units) Again, a race where the favourites look vulnerable and looking to take them on. Tharwa drawn horribly but super from the back the other day. Nice strong filly who will be hitting the line again. Anglais horribly set up 1400m to 2000m but won with a leg in the air the other day and on the quick back up. In the right camp to do something.

Tharwa @ $10.00 (0.6 Units) Bombed the start first up at Warwick Farm so nice and fresh for this. This just looks a swoopers race on paper with good speed engaged and she has a good turn of foot on her day. Think the straight will suit her so worth a peanut at big odds.

Silver Wedding @ $26.00+ (0.2 Units)

Good in both runs back this time in. Primed third up and back to the bigger spaces of Randwick.

Donatello @ $3.30 (2.2 Units)

Looks a good animal and ran up to his trials first up with a soft win. Scratched from the better race where he was well backed for this easier option. Carries the big weight but he’ll be lining up in better races than this.

Perisher @ $2.30 (4 Units)

Will be last in run but she hit the line super first up. Worth something at the price.

Feature Races
