It’s been a slow start for both the Kings and Pelicans this season, and there’s no doubt they would have circled this match in the calendar to notch their first win of the season.

You could make a case that the Kings and Pelicans are the two worst teams in the NBA this season, both starting the 2026-27 season at 0-4, but someone is about to get off the duck egg.

New Orleans should win this game on paper. In fact, they probably should be 3-1, but a combination of poor coaching and selfish basketball from a roster with zero team chemistry has left them still winless.

As for Sacramento, they haven’t come close to anyone this season, but they must give themselves a chance against a Pelicans team coming off no rest.

Despite the Kings being 0-4 to start the season, Sabonis has been really strong and is playing bulk minutes.

The big man is averaging 36 minutes per game, and with a winnable contest against the Pelicans we should see that number as a bare minimum.

Sabonis has hit a PRA of 40+ in three of his four games this season, and this matchup against the Pelicans appears extremely favourable.

He’s another whose minutes are well up at 36 per game, and as a result so is his output.

LaVine is averaging 27.3 points per game to start the season and has hit 20+ points in all four games.

He is clearly a beneficiary of DeMar DeRozan’s departure and shouldn’t have any trouble scoring another 20+ points in this.

On sheer usage alone, Darius Acuff should be hitting 4+ assists every time he steps on the floor.

We’ve seen the good and the bad from Acuff this season, with the point guard picked after Wagler and Brown Jr at the Clippers and Nets respectively, but there’s no denying he can score the basketball and create with the ball in hand.

Acuff has hit 4+ assists in his last three games, and the more games under his belt, the more assists we’re likely to see from the rookie.
