This week’s headline plays are Aeliana at 1.25 units at $5 and Warwoven at 1 unit at $6+ in the Cox Plate, with Global Goal at 2 units at $3.50+ in the Spring Champion Stakes. Ciaron’s Star is our strongest Traders’ Best Bet at 3.2 units at $2.60 in Randwick Race 4.<\/em><\/p>\n

A new look for the best two minutes in sport this year with Flemington taking centre stage as they host the 2026 Cox Plate. A great support card as well as the running of the Spring Champion in Sydney makes for an exciting day’s racing. Let’s dissect the key races and find some bets.<\/p>\n

Feature Races<\/h2>\n

Flemington<\/h3>\n

Cox Plate – Flemington – 2040m G1<\/h4>\n

Different feel for the Cox Plate this year with Moonee Valley out of action, but a good race and decent field assembled nonetheless. Good early speed expected here with Land Legend to roll and Light Infantry Man and the three-year-olds to do the chasing. Sir Delius heads the market currently but looks an easy horse to oppose for mine. He does not look close to what we saw in the Autumn and although he looks set to peak, I’m happy to let him go around without me. Aeliana looks very well-placed 4th up and no doubt better suited to the wide-open spaces of Flemington. Will spot them a start, it’s just whether or not she can round them up. Warwoven I’ve underestimated all prep but the way he glided into the race in the Guineas has me sold that he’ll deal with a fast tempo and maps in a beautiful spot. I think you’ll get a better price about him late and happy to bet. Ceolwulf at 2000m I’m happy to be against despite the fact that he loves a fast run race. Cosmic Crusader back to 2000m and been up a long time. Blind Raise certainly not hopeless with the light weight. Warwoven and Aeliana for me.<\/p>\n

Randwick<\/h3>\n

Spring Champion Stakes – Randwick – 2000m G1 3YOs<\/h4>\n

The fillies to the fore in this year’s Spring Champion with Global Goal and Proxima Dea heading the betting in early markets. Quite simple for me in this race, I’m opposing the Gloaming form. Slowly run race there that perhaps didn’t suit a few horses, but you could throw a blanket over them in the finish and I’m not sure that many of them are any good. Proxima Dea would be the only one I could take from the race as she was hopelessly set up and still beat them. 5th up now first prep and she can win but have to oppose. Leaves us with Global Goal who got the job done for us in the Flight and will eat up the step to 2000m. This camp are geniuses at getting their fillies to a staying trip and I’m happy to gamble on them doing it again. Again, I think the market may take her on late so will bet closer to the off but anything 5\/2 or better looks a good bet.<\/p>\n

Loved her first trial and trucked in her second given little rein. Should be prominent early and schooled in a good two-year-old yard.<\/p>\n

Chased Blue Door home first up when just giving out late. Stylish trial since and brings the best form here by panels. Small field suits.<\/p>\n

Randwick Race 5 – Lafite<\/h4>\n

Tough race but have to bet as Why Too Hard looks too short going 1200m to the mile. Did a good job this horse last start sitting outside the lead and drawn for an economical run.<\/p>\n

Randwick Race 9 – Linebacker<\/h4>\n

Perfectly set up for this 3rd up and gets to his pet trip of 1500m. Keen.<\/p>\n

One of mine this horse as he always tries. Barrier trial last start at the Kenso and back to a more suitable trip here. Maps well in a weak race.<\/p>\n

Savaged the line last start in a good form race. Out to her right trip and can only run well at good each-way odds.<\/p>\n
