Our best bet for Friday’s NRL Round 22 clash between the Melbourne Storm and Canterbury Bulldogs is the Storm +5.5 / Under 42.5 / Fa’alogo to Score Same Game Multi at $7.00, with Melbourne’s home ground advantage and Canterbury’s miserly defence pointing towards a tight, low-scoring arm wrestle at AAMI Park.

Friday night sees a clash between two sides desperately fighting to keep their NRL seasons alive, with the Storm hosting the Bulldogs at AAMI Park.

Melbourne Storm vs Canterbury Bulldogs

The Storm are perilously close to missing out on the top eight for just the third time in the club’s history. They’ve come close to knocking over sides above them on the ladder the past fortnight, falling just short against the Roosters and Rabbitohs.

For the Bulldogs, they’re also sitting afloat of the finals cutoff heading into Round 22, but are much better placed, with a win on Friday potentially bumping them into the eight.

Canterbury have looked sharp in recent weeks, toppling the third-placed Warriors last round and thrashing the Tigers before that.

Leg 1 – Storm +5.5

Melbourne have lost by tight margins in their last two, falling 28-26 to the Rabbitohs and 14-6 to the Roosters.

With home advantage and a healthy dose of desperation, they should be at least as competitive against a lower-calibre side in the Bulldogs.

The only hesitation with backing them outright is the injury to Harry Grant, whose absence is a big hit for the Storm’s attack.

Leg 2 – Under 42.5 Points Total

Canterbury are known for their miserly defence, and Friday night should be no exception.

They’ve leaked just 400 points this season, putting them sixth overall in defence. This is tainted by a few blowouts earlier in the year too.

In the last two rounds, they’ve let in just six points, and in five of their last six they’ve kept opponents to 12 or less.

With the Storm playing at home and fighting for their season, this has all the markers of a low-scoring clash.

Leg 3 – Sualauvi Fa’alogo to Score

Fa’alogo was excellent against the Rabbitohs last week, carving up their defence to score just before halftime.

His running in broken play will be a weapon Melbourne lean on to break down Canterbury’s defence.

He’s got 14 tries already this season and should add another on Friday.

Same Game Multi

Storm +5.5 / Under 42.5 / Fa’alogo to Score = $7.00

Value Bet

Melbourne have come within a play or two of beating quality teams the past two rounds.

In many respects, the Bulldogs are a weaker opponent.

Combine that with the stakes in this match, and backing the Storm to come out on top in an arm wrestle is excellent value, even if it isn’t a sure thing.
