Is this the Grand Final Preview for Season 2026? We’ve got one vs two on Thursday Night, with the Dockers and Swans.

The Swans have an outstanding record against the Dockers, winning four of their last five and covering in 11 of their last 15 games, but this is a new-look Fremantle.

With the Dockers entering this after enduring their first loss in 14 weeks, they’ll be determined to bounce back when they return to Optus Stadium.

The Swans are the number one team in the competition for points off turnover. They’ll come up against the number one team in the league for defending points off turnover in the Dockers.

When Sydney has faced the better teams in the competition at defending points off turnover, they’ve struggled. Against the next tier of teams, Collingwood, Geelong, North Melbourne, Hawthorn and Port Adelaide, they’ve covered the line in just one of those five games, which was a 17-point loss to the Hawks.

The Dockers have covered in six of their eight games at Optus Stadium this year, and although their record against the Swans in recent times is poor, they should bounce back.

With Hayden Young out for the Dockers, I think we’ll see Bolton’s midfield minutes stronger than normal.

When the Dockers played the Bombers without Young but with Serong, Bolton attended 77% of centre bounces, so we should see a big spike on the 55% last round.

The former Tiger has slowed down a bit of late, but he’s still managed to hit 20+ disposals in nine of his last ten games. With Jordan likely going to Serong, and the tagger owning a strong record against the Dockers midfielder, we should see an uptake in Bolton’s numbers.

Another player that will likely see more midfield time without Young out. Matthew Johnson got injured at the worst possible time, attending more than 50% of centre bounces for three straight weeks before missing in Round 13, and those numbers have not returned in his three games back.

With Young out, I think we’ll see Johnson’s numbers increase along with Murphy Reid.

Johnson has still been solid for Fremantle from the wing, and has hit 15+ disposals in his last six games, but when he had strong midfield opportunities he hit 20+ on all three occasions. We should see those numbers pushing 20 once again on Thursday night.

Small forwards continue to play well against the Swans. Last week it was Arthur Jones who was the shining light up forward for the Dogs, and that bodes well for Isaiah Dudley.

Dudley has kicked 19 goals this season from 16 games, and has kicked at least one goal in 13 of those 16 games.
