The Swans are in the box seat for a top-two finish this season, while the Lions have their work cut out in their three-peat quest. What will we see when they meet at the Gabba in Thursday Night Football?

With both teams coming off the bye, the Swans head to the Gabba to face last year’s Premiers.

Brisbane have not been at their best in 2026, but do enter this off the back of wins over Gold Coast and Richmond, while the Swans are one of the best teams in the competition this season, despite a handful of close games going back to Round 9.

The Lions have a good record against the Swans. Can they upset Sydney on their home ground?

The Lions feature in the most games this season where the total points have gone overs, which has happened in 71% of their games in 2026.

At the Gabba, that percentage is even stronger. From their six games at their home ground, five of those have gone over the total points, with all six going over 180.5 total points.

The Swans play a high-octane, sling-shot style of game from their back-half, while the Lions have had some question marks around their defensive efforts this season. Although they’ve beaten the Suns and Tigers prior to their bye, that form-line isn’t anything to get too excited about.

Four of the last five encounters between these two teams at the Gabba have gone over the total points, and this line appears slightly low.

Errol Gulden is back for the Swans, and although his minutes may be managed, surely we still see the superstar find it 20 times in this.

Gulden has hit 20+ disposals in 16 of his last 17 games, which included the last game he played against the Lions in Round 1. He did this in just 65% game time before going off with injury.

He averages 25.4 disposals in his last five games against Brisbane.

He’s playing bulk midfield time for the Swans this season, with his last genuine forward role being against the Lions in Round 1. In that game, Heeney only had 16 disposals.

This won’t happen this time around. Heeney is averaging 29.1 disposals from his last ten games, and has hit 25+ disposals in eight of those.

Dunkley is the likely opponent for Heeney in this, but I can’t see him slowing down the in-form Heeney, who has recorded 30+ disposals in four of his last five.

Chad Warner is the one who has played more up forward this season for Sydney, and with Errol Gulden back for the Swans he’ll continue doing this.

Warner has kicked 18 goals from 14 games this season, kicking at least one goal in 11 of those 14 games.

He didn’t trouble the scorers against the Lions in Round 1, but has a strong record against Brisbane, kicking six goals from the previous four games across 2024 and 2025.
