FLEMINGTON RACE 7 – 15:45 AEST

4YO+ OPEN

2000m

$500,000

GOOD 4

Rail OUT 7m entire

The 2020 Turnbull Stakes looks set to be a cracker, with a number of top middle distancer gallopers lining up. The race looks devoid of speed outside Finche & Django Freeman, which should make it interesting for the backmarkers. Verry Elleegant lines up as the favourite and will be looking to hit back after an unlucky run in the George Main Stakes.

There doesn’t look to be an exceptional amount of early speed outside of Finche & Django Freeman here, so whilst they might get it to suit out in front, we can expect a somewhat moderate pace. Vow And Declare, Aktau & Harlem look to get the run of the race just behind the leaders. Master Of Wine and Dalasan should settle midfield, with a further gap back to Verry Elleegant. Superstorm & Surprise Baby should be the backmarkers.

Despite facing a tough run, he was clearly outpaced and underdone first up in the 1400m Group 1 Winx Stakes as equal favourite. He was much improved second up over 1600m at Flemington, sitting midfield and running home strongly to finish fourth behind Fierce Impact & Russian Camelot. He’ll be much better out to 2000m and that form looks hot at the moment.

Put in a barnstorming run first up at Randwick, settling near last before being pushed at the 600m mark, making a long run into the straight and defying the late challengers. On that run, she looked a certainty up to 1600m in the George Main, but was unable to find room in the straight and could only manage fourth. Looks a deserving favourite here and 2000m suits.
