MORPHETTVILLE RACE 8 – 16:25 AEST

OPEN

1200m

$400,000

SOFT 5

Rail OUT 8m 1200m to WP, OUT 5m remainder

The Goodwood looks a terrific race again this year, with a number of Australia’s top sprinters engaged. Headlining the race is the talented hometown favourite Gytrash, who recently scored his first Group 1 success. He’ll face stiff competition from the likes of Santa Ana Lane, Sunlight, Jungle Edge and others. Another top quality Group 1 race.

Expecting a genuine pace for this year’s Goodwood, with three notable frontrunners engaged in Xilong, Jungle Edge and the speedy Sunlight. Any of those three will lead and it might turn into a mad dash. Gytrash draws wide but looks to slot in behind the leaders and should get a nice run. Santa Ana Lane is the noted backmarker and will do the chasing here.

The multiple Group 1 winner has not scored a victory since his TJ Smith success in April 2019 but that’s not to say he’s run poorly in that time. Finished a half length away in The Everest last prep and was second in the TJ Smith this year. Was out to 1400m last start in the All Aged Stakes which likely stretched him. Back to 1200m suits here and he’s impossible to leave out of the numbers.

The Morphettville trained Stallion gets a chance to taste hometown Group 1 success here and he looks a deserving favourite. He has been racing in terrific form this prep, defeating Nature Strip first up and then scoring a strong win at Group 3 level over Sunlight in his latest run. He looks a genuine Group 1 type now and will be tough to beat again.
