Held over 2000m, the Caulfield Stakes is one of the premier staying races during the Spring Carnival. The race is an ideal launching pad for other staying races later in the Spring such as the Caulfield Cup or Cox Plate. Last year Gailo Chop took out the race for trainer Darren Weir. Other notable recent winners include; Winx, Fawkner and So You Think.

Homesman should run them along here and he looks to have it easy enough up front, able to cross from his wide barrier fairly easily. Sedanzer looks to be the only other speed in the race, with the majority of horses likely to sit midfield. D’argento will have an interesting decision to make from the wide barrier. Benbatl, Night’s Watch and Blair House are likely to sit toward the rear.

Was brilliant behind Homesman last start when sent out as a $71 roughie, only to just miss on the line. Looked to take serious improvement jumping up in distance and does so again up to the 2000m here. Should be nearing full fitness and looks to be one of the main chances.

Brilliant win in the Group 1 Underwood Stakes here two weeks back. Looked like he was going to get run down by Tosen Basil but was courageous and fought to the line for the win. Prior to that just missed at Moonee Valley when running quick sectionals. Could be very hard to run down controlling in front.

Went toe to toe with Hartnell last start in an epic duel in the Group 1 Epsom Handicap in which he was narrowly defeated in the shadows of the post. Looks only a matter of time before this horse wins a Group 1 – could today be the day? Wide barrier could be awkward.

|
