Trapeze Artist looks to cement his Everest favouritism in a small, but quality field in the 2018 Theo Marks Stakes. The Theo Marks is generally used as a starting point in the prep for Group calibre horses, with the Epsom Handicap a targeted race later in the Spring. Last year Deploy beat home Egg Tart, and previously horses like Winx and More Joyous have also taken out the race.

Race Speed

Expecting there to be decent speed in the race, with Home of the Brave looking to lead them from the middle barrier. Siege of Quebec & Trapeze Artist shouldn’t be far away either. Waller’s runners Foxplay, D’argento & Shillelagh look like they’ll round out the tail of the field.

Key Runners

  1. TRAPEZE ARTIST ($2.90)

Resuming today after a brilliant Autumn campaign in which he won the TJ Smith and also the All Aged Stakes. He beat Redzel in the TJ Smith so there should be no queries over whether Trapeze Artist is a topliner by now. Carries 61 kilos though which could have an impact.

    1. HOME OF THE BRAVE ($5.50)

Overseas import who was well supported first up in a narrow defeat to the in-form Voodoo Lad up the Flemington straight. Has had a trial since and looked solid. It’s always hard to line up overseas form, but loved the first up run and think we may still see some improvement. Can dictate up front.

      1. D’ARGENTO ($3.10)

Maps towards the back of the field, but that could be beneficial if they go hard up front. Returned beautifully in the Group 1 Winx Stakes, running 3rd to the wonder mare, which is always handy form. Should take improvement from the run and will be steaming home late.

        Bluey’s Best

        1. TRAPEZE ARTIST ($2.90)

Looks to get an absolutely beautiful run in transit, either behind the leader or just outside. One of the best sprinters in Australia, whose best form should be far too good for this field. The weight is a slight concern, but more than happy to take the price on the current Everest favourite.
