The Stradbroke Handicap is a Group 1 handicap event held over a distance of 1400 metres at Eagle Farm Racecourse. The race attracts prizemoney of $1,500,000. The Stradbroke Handicap is a Brisbane Racing Club Group 1 that occurs in Brisbane as part of the Queensland Winter Racing Carnival<\/a> during the Brisbane Racing Carnival.<\/p>\n

It is run on the same day as the Queensland Derby, JJ Atkin Stakes, Queensland Guineas, Brisbane Cup and Dane Ripper Stakes. It is one of three Group 1 races held on the day. The others are the Queensland Derby (2400m) and JJ Atkin Stakes (1600m).<\/p>\n

Some greats of the Australian turf have won the Stradbroke Handicap including \u2013 Dane Ripper (1997), Rough Habit (1991 & 1992), and Imposing (1978).<\/p>\n

Trainer Bart Cummings holds the record for most wins in the Stradbroke Handicap. He won the race three times.<\/p>\n

History of The Stradbroke Handicap<\/h2>\n

The Stradbroke Handicap was first run in 1890. The race was originally run over 1200m and was won by a horse called Pyrrhus. In 1953, the race distance was changed to 1400m.
\nIn 2015, the race was run over 1350m at Doomben Racecourse due to track reconstruction. The race was won by Srikandi.<\/p>\n
